Polyphasic Sleep
I’ve read several people’s experiences with it and it seems like it might be a “gotta try it” thing as everyone is different.
My current sleep patterns are all over the place. I get between 2 and 9 hours of sleep. On the weekend, my wife and I often take a ~2 hour nap on one day in afternoon when our daughter takes hers. I have the occasional marathon at work where I put in a 16+ hour day and I usually use lots of caffene and sugar to stay awake.
Most people doing polyphasic sleep of some sort need more hours in the day. That would be great, but my main goal is to get stupid daily tasks (laundry, cleaning, etc) done while there’s nothing else to do so I can spend more time with my daughter. The biggest problem with spending more time with her is my work schedule. I can never seem to get out of work before 6 or 7pm and her bed time is 8 or 9. Sometimes I have time on the weekend to just play with her, but usually the weekends are for running errands and such (we don’t leave her at home obviously, but it’s not quality time; BTW she’s almost 1).
I think I’m going to try and ease into changing my sleep schedule. I’ve had lots of experience with sleep deprivation and it’s not plesant. I’ll start by cutting my night time sleep a little and trying to take a nap in the middle of the day. I usually start to drag at work around 2pm. I have my own office, so I can have some privacy, but it’s also the computer room so it’s about 65F. I tried taking a nap right before writing this, but I only kept my eyes closed for 10 min. It’s too cold and my chair isn’t good for sleeping. ?I’ve been rearranging my office and I need to move or block a air vent that’s blowing right on me. I have a big open space in the middle of my floor now (still have some cleaning to do though) so maybe I’ll find another chair for sleeping in.
My wife and I also just started the Atkins diet. We tried it before, but without making sure we had a balanced meal and the right vitamins so it made me feel like crap. This time I’m taking a multi-vitamin, fish oil, and fiber. I’m not sure if I slept particularly good last night or it’s helping my energy level, but I feel pretty good today.
